Processing Strategy

Short Term Plan

Coffee berries processed into washed green beans at Mzuzu Coffee Authority factory (22km away). Macadamia nuts processed by Tropha Farm just outside Mzuzu City.

Long Term Plan

Once coffee production reaches its full capacity, coffee berries will be washed at the Farm itself. On-farm processing facilities are planned for future expansion.

Market Strategy

Coffee: High demand for high quality Arabica coffee. Existing contract with Joppam General Suppliers for 15MT of green coffee beans at USD 5.0 per kilogram. Long term premium markets through Rainforest Alliance Certification.

Macadamia: Processing through established partners including Macridge Processing Solutions in South Africa. Discussions ongoing with Green Farms Nut Company for long-term contracts.

Sustainability Commitment

Chipunga Farm is committed to implementing an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) plan for the project. Both coffee and macadamia production, by means of drip irrigation, and the coffee washing station will require significant quantities of water from the Chipunga River which runs through the Farm.

As part of the IWRM plan, Chipunga intends to build a dam on Chipunga River to staunch water flow during the rainy season for use during the dry season.

Chipunga has facilitated the creation of a Water Users Association where it cooperates with local communities, other users and the government to ensure responsible water use and sustainable management of the catchment area.

Environmental Protection: The farm has approximately 56 hectares of natural woodlands which remain untouched to protect water sources and ensure environmental conservation.
